Wolverhampton Wanderers’ hellish summer transfer window could get even worse with Chelsea swooping in to emerge as front-runners for the signature of Sporting Lisbon’s Matheus Nunes.
That’s according to Portuguese outlet A Bola who claim the Blues are preparing a bid in the region of €45million for the midfielder as they look to steal the signing from under Wolves’ feet.

After putting the brakes on a move for Joao Palhinha and allowing him to move to Fulham, the gold and black can ill-afford to allow another transfer target to head elsewhere.
Nunes looked to be Bruno Lage’s number one priority in this window with Wolves reportedly willing to spend up to €50million - the same as what Chelsea are now ready to offer on the 23-year-old.
If it comes down to a bidding war, there won’t be many confident that Wanderers will come out on top and with it already rumoured that Nunes wanted a move to a team of a ‘more superior level’ - Lage could be in for a losing battle.
Aside from Hwang Hee-chan and the re-signing of Joao Moutinho, Wolves are yet to land a permanent deal this summer despite allowing several players to leave the club.
