Wolverhampton Wanderers have said their final farewells to a defender.

Wolves academy product Harry Birtwistle has confirmed he will be leaving the club after eight years.

The Singaporean right-back never reached the first-team at Molineux but he did rack up exactly 100 appearances for the most senior youth squads. Birtwistle played 66 times for the under-21s, scoring four goals and assisting another four while he featured on 34 occasions for the under-18s, scoring two and assisting five.

Birtwistle’s departure is yet to be officially confirmed by Wolves but the player himself has announced his exit on social media. Posting to Instagram, the 21-year-old said: “After eight years it’s time for me to progress in my career and move on from Wolves.

“So many friends made for life and lessons learnt! Excited for the next part of my journey.”

It awaits to be seen where Birtwistle will go next as his Wanderers contract wasn’t due to expire until June. The Old Gold could be due training compensation if he makes an immediate transfer, unless an agreement was reached between the player to relieve those terms.

Birtwistle had his first taste of competitive senior football last campaign as he spent five months at Oxford City between February and May of last year. The Singapore native played seven times in the National League during that loan spell.
