Wolverhampton Wanderers are on track to complete their second piece of January transfer business.

Wolves have reached an agreement with Millwall to sell midfielder Luke Cundle, with a medical booked in for later today (January 30).

Cundle has been on the periphery of the senior Wolves squad for the past five years but the 22-year-old has never managed to fully break through. Just seven first-team appearances have been racked up since his debut against Reading in the Carabao Cup in September 2019, with much of his development taking part in the under-21 squad.

The Wolves academy product did enjoy three successful loan moves in the Championship, though, with Stoke City, Plymouth Argyle and Swansea City all witnessing his talents during six-month stints at each club in the past two years.

A permanent transfer to the English second tier is now imminent with The Telegraph reporting Millwall have agreed to sign Cundle for £1 million. Wanderers have given the green light for the deal with the midfielder’s medical tests to be conducted in due course.

Cundle has accepted the personal terms offered and will be announced as a new Millwall player once the formalities have been finalised. It’s disappointing it never quite worked out for the Englishman but at least he can now gain consistent game time on a permanent basis.

Millwall, managed by former Norwich City, Preston North End and Sunderland boss Alex Neil, are currently 14th in the Championship standings. The Lions have an outside shot at play-off football if they can put together a strong run, with the gap to Middlesbrough in sixth currently seven points.
