Gary O’Neil’s verdict on Hwang Hee-chan’s Wolves future

Despite prior reports linking Wolves’ £14m ace Hwang Hee-chan with a move away from the midlands, Gary O’Neil has recently stated that he is ‘pretty sure’ the South Korean international will not depart the club any time soon.

He has been in communication with Hwang, stating that he “understands his role in the team and how important he is to me and the group.” Furthermore, the 28-year-old is understood to be ‘happy’ at the club.

Previously, Hwang had been linked with a move to Marseille in Ligue 1. It was reported that the two parties had reached an agreement, though Wolves had not accepted a transfer offer for the player. Wolves are not willing to let him go this summer ‘at any cost’ - last season, Hwang played in 29 Premier League games, scoring 12 goals and registering three assists.

Wolves discuss potential Joe Hodge loan exit

Wolves could loan out Joe Hodge to Huddersfield Town in League One before the transfer window slams shut, according to a recent report from Football Insider. O’Neil’s men are looking to generate funds over the coming weeks to sign ex-Southampton striker Che Adams on a free transfer - allowing Hodge to leave the club, even in the form of a loan, could be a great way to accomplish this.

Hudderfield were relegated from the Championship at the end of the 2023/24 season after a miserable campaign. With several key players having left the John Smith’s Stadium in the wake of this, they are now looking to rebuild their squad ahead of next season. Due to this, it is no surprise that the Terriers have turned their attention to the loan market.

Last season, Hodge spent a period out on loan with Queens Park Rangers in the Championship. He made eight league appearances for the Rs, scoring a single goal along the way. An adaptable player, Hodge is most comfortable when he is deployed as a central midfielder - nevertheless, he can also function as a holding player and as a number ten.
