Craig Dawson has been praised for his Wolves debut performance against Liverpool at the weekend. The defender netted his first goal for the club two weeks after making the switch from West Ham.

Born in Rochdale, Dawson had spent the last two-and-a-half years with the Irons and had become a regular under David Moyes, however they failed to keep hold of him last month when he declared that he wanted to move closer to his family. After months of interest, Wolves managed to snap up the veteran and he has already done a good job of helping them avoid the drop with his performance against Liverpool.

After naming Dawson in his Premier League Team of the Week, Garth Crooks wrote in his BBC Sport column: “It was an inspired move by Wolverhampton Wanderers to get Dawson during the transfer window from West Ham. The defender, who played for West Brom the last time they were in the Premier League, is back in the West Midlands and looking just as comfortable in the famous gold and black club colours at Molineux as he did at the Hawthorns.”

Wolves have now won three of their six matches since the World Cup and the victory over Jurgen Klopp’s side is the first at the third time of asking. Julen Lopetegui’s side were forced to host Liverpool for a second time when they met for the FA Cup replay last month and were then narrowly beaten 1-0 on home soil. Wolves hadn’t overcome the Reds in the top flight since December 2010.
