Wolves winger Adama Traore - and long-term Tottenham target - is close to joining Barcelona, and, according the highly reliable David Ornstein, will fly to Barcelona to complete his medical today (January 28).

The former La Masia youth product will join Barcelona on a loan for the rest of the season, and a buy option is included in the deal. If Barcelona decided to trigger the non-mandatory buy clause, it will see them splash out £30 million for the winger, who left the club almost 7 years ago, after just 1 senior appearance.

Adama first joined Barcelona 18 years ago in 2004, and spent nine years in their famed youth academy, La Masia. After graduating from their youth academy, he spent two years in the Barcelona B team, where he made 63 appearances and scoring 8 goals.

After just a solitary appearance for the first team, he moved to Aston Villa, where he was relegated, and left to Middlesbrough after just 11 appearances.

Two years following that, and yet another relegation, the winger moved to Wolves and found his first stable club. He has played 123 times for Wolves, scoring eight goals.

When Liverpool won the Premier League in 2019/2020, Adama was coming off of the back of a wonderful season with Wolves, and was Wolves quoted the Merseyside club £45 million for him.

Liverpool decided that fee was too high.

Since Antonio Conte joined Spurs, he has not been impressed with both Matt Doherty or Emerson Royal, due to their lack of attacking threat, and identified Adama as their replacement, however, reports have suggested that Adama had no interest in playing as a wing-back, and therefore the deal that was likely all January has now collapsed.

And now it appears Barcelona have the deal all but done, as Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano coined his famous phrase ‘here-we-go’.
