Wolves play host to Bournemouth in a crucial clash at the bottom of the Premier League table

The Premier League have selected Peter Bankes to be the referee for the crucial top-flight showdown between Wolves and Bournemouth at Molineux. Bankes became a top-flight referee at the start of the 2019/20 season and has taken charge of over 76 Premier League matches in his career so far.

He has refereed a total of six Premier League matches this season and has handed out 22 yellow cards and one red card, giving him an average of 3.67 cards a game, according to WhoScored.com. Bankes has taken charge of 18 Wolves games in his career and in that time the West Midlands side have a record of seven wins, five draws and six defeats.

Nick Greenhalgh and Craig Taylor will act as assistant referees during the contest at Molineux while Rob Jones will be the game’s fourth official. Paul Tierney will be tasked with settling any controversial VAR decisions alongside his assistant Scott Ledger.

Wolves enter the game against Bournemouth high on confidence after a mini-revival which has seen the team win both of their last two games.

Brazilian international Matheus Cunha has been the catalyst for that upturn in fortunes in recent weeks. The 25-year-old’s record of seven goals and three assists means he has been involved in 50 percent of Wolves’ goals this season and puts him among the leading goalscorers and assist creators in the competition.

Cunha notably registered two goals and an assist away to Fulham last time out as Wolves secured a confidence boosting 4-1 victory away at Craven Cottage.

Wolves’ upcoming Premier League opponents

Wolves play host to a Bournemouth side that have had a much-improved start to this season after a difficult few months at the start of Andoni Iraola’s reign 12 months ago. The Cherries have a record of four victories, three draws and five defeats from their opening 12 games, leaving them 13th in the table and six points ahead of the drop zone.

Iraola’s side have so far coped fairly well with the departure of top scorer Dominic Solanke, with club-record signing Evanilson scoring four times in 11 matches, including a crucial match-winner against Manchester City. They have also beaten Arsenal this season.

The Boscombe based side will travel to Molineux in search of their first win in two matches after narrow defeats against Brentford and Brighton earlier in the month.
