Fabrizio Romano: Wolves' £45m-rated gem drops biggest transfer hint yet amid Man City and Liverpool interest

The latest transfer news as Fabrizio Romano reports an update on a Wolves player amid interest from Man City and Liverpool.

Wolverhampton Wanderers left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri has changed his representatives ahead of what could be a significant summer transfer window.

Ait-Nouri is coming to the end of his most productive attacking season despite Wolves’ struggles before the new year. The Algerian, predominantly used as an advanced left wing-back since Vitor Pereira came in as Gary O’Neil’s successor, has contributed four goals and seven assists in 35 Premier League appearances this term.

Wolves are delighted with Ait-Nouri’s progress and are eager to tie him down to a new contract, especially as he will soon enter the final 12 months of his current deal. The 13-time Algeria international may not agree so easily, however, as there’s widespread transfer interest from elsewhere.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with Ait-Nouri as they seek to sign an upgrade at left-back, with Andrew Robertson’s ability beginning to deplete as he enters his thirties. AFC Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez is another option the newly elected Premier League champions are considering.

Manchester City are also reportedly interested in Ait-Nouri ahead of the summer window as Pep Guardiola looks to address this season’s woes. An overhaul of the squad is likely at the Etihad Stadium and Ait-Nouri, versatile and attacking-minded, could suit Guardiola’s system.

No official bid has been made yet with the transfer window still closed, but movement is expected in the coming months and Wolves face a battle to keep hold of Ait-Nouri. Head coach Vitor Pereira is keen to ignore transfer interest but it won’t be so easy for the club to do that with the player’s contract running down.

Fabrizio Romano issues major Rayan Ait-Nouri update

There’s been an update which could change the likelihood of Ait-Nouri renewing his Wolves deal, for better or for worse. Transfer news specialist Fabrizio Romano reports the defender has changed his agent, signing on with CAA Stellar as his new representatives.

That may not sound overly significant but the context behind the change is important. Ait-Nouri was previously with super agent Jorge Mendes’ Gestifute agency, which has close ties to Wolves. The Old Gold have often benefited from their strong working relationship with Mendes and his entourage, but Ait-Nouri has now ditched their representation.

Romano’s report also mentions that Ait-Nouri is “one to watch this summer”, with several clubs keen on signing him. Although no teams were named, the image used was of Ait-Nouri celebrating with Robertson in the background – perhaps a subtle nod at Liverpool’s interest.

Ait-Nouri changing representatives could mean very little, but it could also be a hint that a huge decision is about to be made. Logically, there would be no real need for the 23-year-old to ditch his old agent if he was simply staying put at Wolves, unless, of course, he had lost faith in their ability to negotiate him a good enough contract.

CAA Stellar’s perspective awaits to be seen, though the first conversations are bound to be about whether their new client should extend his Wolves stay or seek a move elsewhere. The weeks ahead are crucial.
