Wolverhampton Wanderers have reached an agreement in principle with RS Strasbourg to sign midfielder Jean-Picner Bellegarde, according to a reputable local report.

Gary O’Neil’s side may have completed the acquisition of Tommy Doyle already but they’re not done just yet as they are willing to spend more to bolster in midfield.

The record £52.8 million sale of Matheus Nunes to Manchester City has handed Wolves the funds required to cough up what’s required to bring Chelsea-linked Bellegarde to Molineux.

That’s according to the Express & Star as the publication’s latest report states the deal is very much on after Wanderers had a £12.8 million offer accepted by Strasbourg.

It’s claimed Wolves officials are on their way to France in order to complete the formalities of the transfer. The player is expected to do his medical tests in his home nation.

Bellegarde, entering his prime at the age of 25, has scored two goals and contributed two assists in three impressive Ligue 1 matches this season, playing from a central midfield role.

The former France U21 international has already matched his scoring tally of last campaign but is seven away from his previous total of nine assists. He’s set to become Wolves’ sixth summer coup.
