Wolves will take up their option to sign Tommy Doyle from Manchester City on a permanent basis, according to a report.

Doyle joined on Deadline Day in the summer on a season-long loan move. Matheus Nunes was moving to the Citizens for a reported £47m, and Doyle along with Matthew Whittingham came in the other direction.

According to Liam Keen, a journalist for the Express & Star, the club will go through with a £4.3m deal to sign the 22-year-old. The Premier League champions have a 50% sell on-clause for when his move from the Etihad is confirmed.

“I would expect him to be here next year,” said O’Neil when asked about Doyle’s future.

“Hopefully we can get that done fairly quickly in the summer. “I know he feels settled and I know he’s enjoying it.

“We’re delighted with how he’s done, so I don’t foresee any issues with that one being done.” “Joao Gomes and Mario Lemina have had fantastic seasons, so the fact Tommy has managed to impact it as well as he has, with them two doing as well as they have, tells you how well Tommy has performed.”

England under-21 midfielder Doyle has made 29 appearances in all competitions during his time at Molineux. He has earned 16 starts with 10 of them coming in the Premier League. Doyle scored his first goal for the club in a 1-1 draw with Brentford back in January and has started the last three league games.

Before his arrival at Wolves, he had loans at Cardiff City, Hamburger SV and Sheffield United. Hamburg was his first time away from Manchester and he played seven times there before his loan was cut short. He would join Cardiff where he became a key player, helping them to Championship survival.

Six months later he joined the Blades and was a member of their promotion-winning squad, getting seven assists and four goals. At Man City, he made seven appearances for their senior team, whist also being a key member of their under-23’s team.
