West Ham are considering appointing former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui as their new first-team manager.

David Moyes is out of contract at the end of the season, and despite being offered a new deal, he has yet to commit his future to the club. A decision will be made at the end of the campaign, and the club will not make an early announcement on the future of the 60-year-old according to the BBC.

West Ham will have to have a contingency plan in place however, and they could look to Lopetegui as someone to take over the reins. Lopetegui was still in charge when Wolves spoke to Gary O'Neil about replacing him with the two coming to an amiccable departure.

Lopetegui has been linked with several vacancies this season, including in Saudi Arabia and in France. He is said to be holding out for a job in the Premier League however and the London Stadium is a possible destination. He was spotted at Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge earlier on in the season.

The Telegraph report that Lopetegui is a 'leading choice' to replace Moyes. Lopetegui is keen to make his return to management in the Premier League according to the report and because of his vast experience he is an attractive option to the West Ham board.

The former Real Madrid boss was in charge at Molineux for just under a year. He led the club to a 13th-placed finish after taking over from Bruno Lage and had a record of 10 wins, six defeats and 11 defeats, giving him a win percentage of 37.04%.

He had been manager of Sevilla before joining Wolves and won the Europa League in 2020. Lopetegui had a short stint as manager of Real Madrid in 2018 and could also count Rayo Vallecano and Porto as the other teams he's taken charge of.

Despite being a ‘leading choice’ for the role, it has been reported by The Athletic that West Ham are plotting an audacious move for Ruben Amorim. Amorim has strongly been linked with replacing Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool but refuted those rumours. Amorim is the manager of Portugese side Sporting CP and has been in his post since 2020, winning the title in 2021.
