A striker linked with a move to Wolves has been banished from the first team.

Wolves transfer target Tommy Conway has been made to train with the Under-21’s squad amid a contract dispute with his club.

According to the Bristol Post, Conway’s contract saga with the Robins has taken an ‘uncomfortable turn’. The 21-year-old is not being considered for the first team because he refuses to sign a new deal at Ashton Gate.

Conway returned back to his club base on Monday after being afforded time off following his involvement with Scotland at EURO 2024. He was a late call-up after Lyndon Dykes was injured but never got on to the pitch.

His representatives are now in discussions with Bristol City as they try and find an amicable solution to the situation. A contract offer has been on the table over the last 12 months, but Conway has rejected the chance to extend his stay past 2025.

Bristol City will favour selling him in this transfer window instead of keeping him and getting compensation for him next summer. The club would be due a fee after bringing him through their academy system.

Liam Manning’s side have five friendlies and Conway will not feature in any of them. It looks like Conway will not feature in his plans ahead of City’s opener against Hull City on August 10.

“Tommy has had a contract offer on the table, which is an excellent offer," Manning said to the Bristol Post.

“This has been turned down, and not negotiated with the player expressing a desire to leave.

“The decision has been made for him to train with the U21s, with the focus wholly on players who are fully committed to what we are trying to achieve.”

Bristol City have been strengthening their attack in the event of Conway’s departure. Fally Mayulu has joined for an undisclosed fee from Rapid Wien and Sinclair Armstrong is expected to finalise his £2m move from QPR after rejecting Birmingham City, Stoke City and Sunderland

As for Conway, there is interest brewing in the background but nothing has become ‘tangible’ in terms of any offers. Wolves are said to be interested, along with Celtic, Rangers, Brentford, Celtic, Leicester City, and Nottingham Forest
