A South American FA accepted Wolves’ request.

Wolves are dealing with a fresh injury concern after they formally requested Santiago Bueno return back early from international duty.

According to Uruguayan media outlet Polideportivo, Bueno had some discomfort in Wolves' last match against Southampton. The AUF and Marcelo Bielsa were made aware but still opted to call him up with it appearing that the centre back has a muscle strain.

The 26-year-old was not among the substitute's in Uruguay 3-2 win against Colombia, and he will play no part against Brazil. The match was an opportunity to come up against his club teammate Andre.

A statement published by the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) read: “His club, in the early hours of today, Sunday 17/11, officially requested that the player to return.

“Given this request and prioritising the health of the player, Santiago won’t travel to Brazil and is disqualified from the call-up.”

The severity of the injury hasn’t been disclosed but it does leave Gary O’Neil with a fresh new injury concern ahead of their upcoming Premier League match against Fulham.

Bueno has started the last four matches for Wolves, and most recently kept a clean sheet in the 2-0 win against Southampton. Wolves are short on defensive options at the minute owing to several injuries.

Yerson Mosquera is out for the season after he suffered injuries to the medial collateral ligament (MCL) and the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Summer signing Bastien Meupiyou has yet to make his debut since joining from French side Nantes. The 18-year-old arrived with a pre-existing injury but has been spotted on the training ground.

If Bueno is injured then Wolves will have to make an adjustment to their back line. Craig Dawson should start, and there is Alfie Pond waiting in the wings. Wolves tend to play with a back three, and so an injury to the South American would disrupt that.

Enso Gonzalez is also out for the season whilst Sasa Kalajdzic is making progress. Hee-Chan Hwang should be back after the international break, whilst Boubacar Traore is out till Christmas. Wolves play Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday, November 23 at 3.00 pm. A busy period awaits with six Premier League games pencilled in until Christmas Day.
