Two former Birmingham City and Wolves men are reportedly under consideration for the vacant manager’s job at Coventry City, according to various reports.

The Sky Blues are on the search for a new manager after parting company with Mark Robins earlier this month. He was in charge of the East Midlands club for almost eight years, but a poor start to the season saw them go in a different direction.

Alan Nixon, an EFL journalist for The Sun, has reported on his Patreon that Coventry are interested in under-fire Luton Town boss Rob Edwards. Luton are in fact below Coventry in the table albeit by a point, but they too have also had a bad start to the season by their standards.

Edwards is under contract at Kenilworth Road until the summer of 2028. He signed a four-year deal with the Hatters in June despite their relegation from the Premier League.

The 41-year-old played and managed Wolves for a spell. He played 111 games for Wolves between 2004 and 2008, helping the club reach the play-offs under Mick McCarthy, having been signed by Dave Jones.

Edwards later returned to Molineux as a coach, managing their under-18s team before taking on a coaching job under Kenny Jackett. He later managed the team for an interim spell following Walter Zenga's sacking before taking up a role as the under-23s team.

Since May 2021, he’s been involved in club management and took Forest Green Rovers to League One. He was harshly sacked by Watford just 11 games in, and then since November 2022, he’s been manager of Luton, with whom he won promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.

Edwards isn’t the only man under consideration for the Coventry job however as Twitter user SamC_reports who boasts 143k followers on Twitter believes there are three candidates for the job. Chelsea legend Frank Lampard appears to be the front runner, but Ruud van Nistelrooy who was recently let go by Manchester United, is also a strong contender according to the The United Stand contributor.

In another tweet, he said that Carsley is also the 'third option' for the job. Nistlerooy appears to be the preferred choice of most involved, but the ownership are apparently leaning towards Lampard due to their ties with the Redknapp family.

Carsley who played and managed Birmingham City is fully focused on finishing the job with England. A win against the Republic of Ireland on Sunday (November 17) will see them promoted to League A in the Nations League. The 50-year-old is expected to return to his post as manager of the under-21s team when Thomas Tuchel takes over on January 1.

“You always question whether you could do it,” said Carsley to the Independent.

You know, in terms of being in your comfort zone, it’s something that both myself and the staff have been out of which has done us good.

“Our focus is really on tomorrow now, in terms of the future. That’s my priority, making sure that we get job done tomorrow.”
