In their last Premier League outing, Wolves drew 2-2 at home with fellow strugglers Crystal Palace. After a tepid first half, the Eagles broke the deadlock with a goal from Trevoh Chalobah.

Their lead did not last long - Jorgen Strand Larsen equalised for Wolves seven minutes later, followed by a strike from Joao Gomes. Wolves could not hold onto their lead, however - England international Marc Guehi struck after this to ensure the spoils would be shared.

Meanwhile, Southampton picked up their first Premier League win of the season when they defeated Everton at St. Mary’s. The game looked to be petering out to a goalless draw - nevertheless, Adam Armstrong was on hand to find the back of the net in the 85th minute to seal a much needed win for the Saints.

As things stand, Wolves are rooted to the foot of the Premier League table. They have yet to win a game in the division at this point in the season, having drawn three and lost seven from their opening ten games - they are unbeaten in their last two games, though. Gary O’Neil’s men have had plenty to think about at the back, given their defensive record - they have conceded a whopping 27 goals so far.

Southampton, on the other hand, are 19th - they have just one point more than Wolves. They have won one, drawn one and lost eight. They have struggled to score goals in the current campaign - with just seven goals to their name, they are the league’s lowest scorers at the time of writing.

What did Russell Martin say ahead of Wolves’ game against Southampton on Saturday?

Speaking in his press conference ahead of the game against Wolves on Saturday, Martin said: “I think every game in the Premier League is the same. We try and win every game [and] we’ll try and win this game. There are no easy games in the Premier League. So I don’t know what the expectation is - I know what our expectation is.

“I know what’s really important to us and our performance and I think we’ve made that really clear to the players. I think they understand that, they know that and they know why. We’ve worked on what we’ve worked on this week. We will go [to Wolves] with the aim of being us and turning the performance into the game that we want it to be. It’s not going to be easy, but it’s a brilliant challenge.”
