Wolves have allowed one of their players to leave the club despite the summer transfer window slamming shut.

The transfer window slammed shut on Friday, September 1, but a few pieces of business had been confirmed after the deadline. Dylan Sciculuna joined Western Sydney Wanderers on a free transfer meanwhile Matthew Whittingham was confirmed on the Saturday.

Earlier this week however another player departed Molineux. Christian Marques became the 23rd player to leave having joined Swiss outfit Yverdon-Sport for an undisclosed fee. Yverdon play in the Swiss Super League, the top-flight of football in Switzerland, and this week revealed Marques would be heading there.

The transfer window in Switzerland shut on Thursday, September 7, but his move was confirmed after the deadline but there is no hitch. The 20-year-old is returning to Switzerland having spent four years as a player at Wolves.

Marques was captain of Wolves’ under-18 and under-21 teams and joined for a reported £360k from Grasshopper according to The Athletic. He failed to make an appearance for the senior team but was an unused substitute eight times.

In total, he made 70 appearances for their age-grade teams with five goals and two assists. He had a loan spell at Forest Green Rovers last season in addition to B SAD in Portugal.

After his move was confirmed, Marques posted on his Instagram: “New challenge very happy to be here and can‘t wait to get started,” along with a photo of him posing with his new kit.

In a short statement, Wolves said: “All at Wolves wish Christian the best of luck on the future.”

Despite Bueno’s departure, Wolves managed to defeat Notts County 2-1 in their opening EFL trophy match. Goals from Owen Hesketh and Nathan Fraser gave the young Wolves a win over League Two opposition.

In other news Hugo Bueno made his debut for the Spanish under-21 team on Monday night. The 20-year-old has been with Wolves since 2019 and has gone on to become an integral part of Gary O’Neils side in defence.
