Liverpool and Arsenal land surprise £60m boost in pursuit of Wolves star

The latest transfer news as Liverpool and Arsenal are boosted in pursuit of Wolves star Pedro Neto.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly made the difficult decision to sell superstar winger Pedro Neto, with a summer sale considered inevitable to balance the books.

The Old Gold are just about on the correct side of the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) but will remain in a precarious position unless funds are raised. Gary O'Neil is doing a great job with limited resources but if injuries start racking up then a lack of squad depth will undoubtedly be exposed.

This can only be rectified if O'Neil can make some acquisitions, however that will only be realistic if a transfer budget is readied. The Sun reports Wolves are being very matter-of-fact as a result and will allow Neto to leave to improve the club's finances, as long as a suitable offer is received.

Liverpool and Arsenal will be buoyed by this news as the Premier League title challengers have displayed an interest in Neto for some time. There's plenty of competition, though, with Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Juventus and Bayern Munich all said to be interested.

Neto, still only 23, is enjoying his best season to date. Eight assists and two goals in 15 Premier League appearances have put him at the centre of attention not only at Molineux but across the country. The Portugal international is back to the levels he displayed before his serious knee injury, when he scored five and assisted six in 31 games in 2020/21.

It's believed Wanderers want upwards of £60 million to allow their star man to depart, eclipsing the record £53 million sale of Matheus Nunes to Manchester City.
