In what will be the 24th series of the show, Ipswich Town based football site TWTD claims McCarthy is being lined up to appear on there. No official start date has been confirmed, but the 2024 series will go ahead, and last year, the show began in mid-November.

McCarthy has been out of football management for over a year after leaving Blackpool. The 65-year-old is popular among Wolves fans having guided them to the Championship title in 2009, and helping cement them as a top-flight club for a couple of years.

The former Sunderland boss could be a good fit in the jungle as he has gone viral on social media with some clips from his press conference. Last year, when Blackpool were on a bad run of form, a journalist asked: “In terms of results Mick, one win 17, it can’t go on like this, can it? to which he brutally replied, "It can."

I’m a Celeb is a show which sees celebrities mainly known to a British audience jet off to Australia and do tasks. In order to earn food, they must perform Bushtucker Trials, which sees them eat things like insects, and face their fears, such as being with bugs and snakes.

The last footballer to appear on the show was Jill Scott, who won the EUROs in 2022, and then in the same year was crowned Queen of the Jungle. Harry Redknapp also wooed the audience, and was crowned King. Other former footballers to appear on the show include Kieron Dyer, Jimmy Bullard, and Wayne Bridge.

As to who could potentially join McCarthy in the jungle, according to The Sun, producers are opting against including current or former politicians, having had Nigel Farage and Matt Hancock appear in recent years. According to the Metro, N-Dubz star Tulisa Contostavlos, Helen Worth who plays Gail Platt in Coronation Street, could also be on the programme.
