Liverpool have reportedly joined Wolverhampton Wanderers and an array of other Premier League clubs in the race to sign Bristol City wonderkid Alex Scott in the summer. The 19-year-old has been a key player for The Robins in the Championship this season, with one goal and five assists in 37 appearances.

Playing predominantly in the centre of midfield but also capable of featuring further forward as a playmaker or wide man, Scott has been key to helping Bristol to a firm mid-table spot in England’s second tier. Established as a Three Lions U20 international with three appearances to his name, Scott already has a market value of around £20 million.

Many became aware of the youngster’s ability when he shone against Manchester City in a cup match earlier this season, but he has been around for a while having played 38 times in the league last season. Scott also played a handful of Championship matches at the end of 2020/21, when he was still just 17 years of age.

The Daily Mail reports Liverpool sent scouts to watch Scott in action against Germany U20 during the international break, but Wolves and West Ham United have been keeping tabs for some time. The Reds are said to be eager to improve their midfield options after a disappointing season in the Premier League, though Newcastle United and Manchester United have been linked too.

While a move to Anfield may seem more attractive at first glance, the reality is consistent game time would be more likely at an alternative destination. Wolves look set to lose Ruben Neves in the summer meaning Scott could become a regular starter immediately, whereas West Ham are in a similar position with Declan Rice.

Newcastle have a brilliant project going on under Eddie Howe but their midfield has been packed with the signings of Bruno Guimaraes, Chris Willock and Anthony Gordon. Although there is still a while to go until the start of the transfer window, Scott will likely be well aware of the speculation. A move away is looking all the more likely, so he has quite the ultimatum.
