Fresh Premier League table with no VAR after Wolves controversy & where Aston Villa, Spurs & Liverpool sit

Wolves were involved in more VAR controversy against Bournemouth on Wednesday night

Wolves star Matheus Cunha feels the number of refereeing decisions that have gone against his side this season are unfair. Gary O’Neil’s men lost 1-0 to Bournemouth on Wednesday night but had a goal ruled out in the second half following an off-the-ball incident between Cunha and Justin Kluivert.

Stuart Atwell, who came under fire this week after he was in the VAR booth for Everton’s controversial win over Nottingham Forest, was sent to the pitchside monitor to check the validity of Hee Chan Hwang’s second-half goal but overturned his on-field decision after seeing the incident between Cunha and Kluivert. The incident did not appear to interfere with play and is the latest decision that has frustrated Wolves this campaign. Cunha reacted: “It is hard, many times we have lost points to a hard decision and many times we see some things on the TV and they are always sorry but the next game it happens again.

“It’s not today, maybe today they gave a good decision I don’t know. It’s hard on the pitch because the speed of the action is different and then you see in slow motion and you change your mind. Then I speak with the guy and I don’t know why he goes to the screen. These kind of things, from the bottom of the heart, it’s hard.

“Everyone said Wolves would go to the Championship to be relegated. We came here with a lot of work. But it is hard to lose a lot of points with hard decisions. Sometimes it feels like it is not fair.”

With VAR making headlines yet again this season, we have put together how the table might look without the involvement of Stockley Park. Factoring in goals that were awarded or chalked off as a result of the technology, including via penalties, here is where Wolves could sit compared to Aston Villa and other rivals.
