Former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Bruno Lage could soon have a new job thanks to a helping hand from Al-Nassr striker and global superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Brazilian side Botafogo look set to lose current head coach Luís Castro as Al-Nassr are said to have placed a bid on the table for the 61-year-old.

Local reports suggest Ronaldo has directly requested that fellow Portuguese countryman Castro is appointed to the Saudi Arabia Pro League club.

This has left Botafogo in a tricky position as they will need a speedy replacement for Castro with the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A season currently ongoing.

Brazilian publication Extra claims Lage has been drawn up as a potential successor, with “contact made so that the club can understand the coach’s plans”.

The initial conversations are said to have taken place about whether Lage has the desire to move to Brazil and Extra has already likened his tactics to the “Botafogo Way”.

Lage, who was also once the assistant manager at Sheffield Wednesday, has been unemployed since being relieved of his duties at Molineux in October of last year.

It remains to be seen if he would be open to joining Botafogo, but he can thank Ronaldo regardless, as the opportunity seems to have opened up because of the Castro request.
