Wolves fans breathe a sigh of relief as the club looks set to avoid any punishment for any Financial Fair Play Rules from the Premier League.

A report from the Telegraph said that Wolves needed to raise £90 million to avoid any punishments next summer, and in total they raised £140m in sales of several of their stars. Matheus Cunha was sold to the champions Manchester City for a reported £53m, and he came following the £23m sale of Nathan Collins to Brentford, and Al Hilal's purchase of Portuguese midfielder Ruben Neves for £47m.

It adds that the club will be under temporary restrictions, and as a result will not be spending ‘big’ in the upcoming winter transfer window in January. Wolves are said to be mid-way through a crucial 12-months of a three-year cycle of profit and sustainability rules, and will have to live within their means to avoid punishments such as a fine or even worse a points deduction.

The Telegraph last week said that the Premier League recommended that Wolves' relegation rivals Everton face a 12-point deduction in a case against them for breaching profit and sustainability rules. Wolves are currently managing their situation, and for the time being look safe from any punishment.

In the same report, the Telegraph add that O’Neil has ‘prioritised’ a number nine, and that owner Fosun are now trying to work out how much the manager can be given to recruit in that position. Matheus Cunha - signed for £44m from Atletico Madrid - has led the line this season but the club envisage him playing in more of a free role across the front-three instead.

Southampton’s Che Adams is someone that could come back into consideration having been linked back in the summer. Adams was denied of a move to Molineux back in the summer, and it was suggested that Wolves wanted to take him on a season-long loan with a £15m buy option, which was rejected.

The 27-year-old is out-of-contract this summer and the Saints' position might change depending on if Adams is willing to commit his long-term future to them. He has got three goals and two assists in 11 league games this season, and will also have his international prospects on his mind on his next decision after Scotland qualified for EURO 2024.

It’s also been reported that Wolves are no longer interested in Salernitana forward Boulaye Dia. The Italian clubs sporting director Morgan De Sanctis said back in September that towards the end of the window they had made an offer of a loan with an option to buy but were unimpressed with the figures, and now Wolves are to take look elsewhere for a new forward.

As for any player departures, Wolves do not plan to sell any more of their players, despite a long list of suitors. Pedro Neto has various clubs interested in him, including Arsenal and Liverpool but he came out last week admitting he’s happy in the Midlands, and Wolves do not want to part ways with him.
