West Bromwich Albion climbed to the top of the Championship table after beating Plymouth Argyle 1-0 on Saturday. Josh Maja scored the game’s only goal at the Hawthorns, finishing from close range after an excellent Uroš Račić cross.

Carlos Corberan’s side were made to be patient in search of a fifth win in six and came up against a Plymouth outfit with renewed confidence, but deserved the three points that eventually came their way via Maja. The Baggies kept it solid throughout to record a third clean sheet in as many games, cementing their status as the early pace-setters.

Alex Palmer - 7.4

Majority of Plymouth’s attacking play came down Albion’s right but Furlong dealt with it well for the most part.

Semi Ajayi - 7.1

Typically committed and aggressive at the back, riding out early pressure.

Kyle Bartley - 6.6

Solid as ever, barring a couple of mishaps in possession.

Rarely lost possession and bombed forward once Albion gathered momentum.

Alex Mowatt - 7.9

Man of the Match performance, controlling build-up play from deep. Unfortunate to hit the woodwork.

Uros Racic (off ‘71) - 7.0

Excellent cross to set up Maja’s winner but lacked the presence of usual starter Jayson Molumby.

Tom Fellows (off ‘71) - 6.6

Exciting and energetic in the first-half, not so much in the second.

John Swift (off ‘63) - 6.9

Followed Mowatt in crashing the woodwork before half-time. More influential in the opening 45 than after the break.

Karlan Grant (off ‘63) - 7.0

The first to hit the post and looked lively in the first-half. Put in a decent shift.

Josh Maja (off ‘78) - 6.9

A simple finish in the end to win it but excellent positioning to meet Racic’s cross. Six in six for the 25-year-old.

Grady Diangana (on ‘63) - 6.5

Another chance to build fitness, having been unfortunate with injuries.

Mikey Johnston (on ‘63) – 6.1

Quiet.

Jed Wallace (on ‘71) – 6.1

100th appearance for West Brom.

Ousmane Diakite (on ‘71) – 6.5

Settled well off the bench.

Lewis Dobbin (on ‘78) - 6.0

Worked hard.
