West Brom player ratings vs Oxford United after last-gasp equaliser snubs Albion of Championship top spot

West Brom were denied the chance to go top of the Championship table on Saturday when new boys Oxford United stung them in stoppage time with a wounding equaliser.

Albion had shot up to first place in the table after Karlan Grant’s first half goal. But despite hanging on to their lead for more than an hour, they were sent home from the Kassam Stadium with just one point in the bag. Dane Scarlett popped up with a huge goal to take Oxford’s tally up to to 13 points, just five behind today’s rivals.

Now, instead of claiming the top spot, West Brom sit fifth in the Championship table, with Burnley and Sunderland above them still to play this weekend. As for the U’s, their impressive home record in their newly promoted season continues. Oxford are unbeaten at home so far and will be hoping to keep this momentum going as they eye a comfortable stay in the Championship.

It will be a tough result to take for Carlos Corberán and his side, though, who were hoping to build on their previous 0-0 draw with Millwall at The Hawthorns. Fans and neutrals alike have described Albion’s performance as two points lost, rather than a point gained.

Albion are yet to register a win so far this month, with their last three points coming at the end of September against Plymouth Argyle to extend a six-game unbeaten run.

After their 3-2 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday, West Brom have been unable to rediscover their winning formula. But with Blackburn Rovers coming up on Wednesday, there’s little time to dwell on the result.
