West Brom face transfer competition as Birmingham City plot attacker move

West Brom are preparing for the start of the new Championship season. They reached the play-offs in the last campaign but were beaten at the semi-finals stage by eventual winners Southampton.

West Brom midfielder wanted

West Brom midfielder Jayson Molumby has emerged on the radar of fellow second tier side Millwall, according to The Mirror. The 24-year-old, who is a Republic of Ireland international with 24 caps under his belt so far in his career, had a loan spell at The Den a few years ago from his former club Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Baggies signed him in 2021 on an initial temporary basis before snapping him up permanently afterwards. He has since made 103 appearances in all competitions and has scored five goals.

Striker latest

West Brom have been joined by Norwich City in pursuit of Leicester City striker Tom Cannon, as per journalist Alan Nixon on his Patreon. Sheffield United are also keen on the attacker but Stoke City have apparently dropped their interest.

Cannon joined the Foxes from Everton last summer and penned a five-year deal. He found the net three times in 16 outings last term as they won promotion to the Premier League.

Birmingham City eye winger

Birmingham are targeting NEC Nijmegen winger Sontje Hansen, as per Dutch news outlet Voetbal International. Leeds United are also being linked with a move for the 22-year-old.

The Blues could see the Holland youth international as someone to add more competition to their attacking ranks. He rose up through the academy at Ajax and was a regular for the Amsterdam outfit at various different youth levels.

Hansen joined NEC last year and has since become a key player for the Eredivisie side. He has scored five goals in 33 games altogether but they could face a battle to keep hold of him in this window amid attention from England.

Target latest

Reporter Nixon has also claimed on his Patreon page that Derby County are hoping to beat Birmingham to the signing of Stade Brestois winger Karamoko Dembele. The 21-year-old is a former England youth international.

He spent last term on loan at Blackpool in League One to get some experience under his belt and was a hit with the Tangerines. The London-born man scored nine goals in 47 matches before heading back to his parent club in France.

Brest now have a big decision to make on what to do with him between now and the deadline later this month. Dembele linked up with the Ligue 1 team back in 2022 but hasn’t been able to make much of an impact there.

He started out at Celtic and was a tipped for a bright future during his time in Glasgow. He played 10 times for the Hoops before he was given the green light to head out the exit door.
