West Bromwich Albion's bid to return to the Premier League could be delayed as the EFL prepare to make a major decision over the Championship play-off final.

The Baggies remain firmly in the hunt for a place in the top six after Saturday's 2-0 home win against Bristol City extended their unbeaten run to a sixth game and ensured Albion sit comfortably in the play-off spots as thoughts turn towards the international break.

However, Coventry City's impressive run to the FA Cup semi-final has reportedly forced the EFL into a rethink over the play-off schedule.

The Sky Blues stunned Wolverhampton Wanderers in a quarter-final tie on Saturday as late goals from Ellis Simms and Haji Wright helped Mark Robins' side to a 3-2 win at Molineux. That set up a Wembley date with Manchester United as Coventry look to become the first Championship club since Cardiff City in 2008 to reach the FA Cup Final.

However, the Sky Blues also remain in contention for a play-off place and they sit just four points adrift of Norwich City, who currently occupy the fourth and final play-off spot. Their push for their own return to the Premier League has caused a major headache for the EFL as the FA Cup Final and Championship play-off final both fall on the weekend of Saturday 25th May.

The Mail have claimed the EFL have now booked Wembley Stadium to host the Championship play-off final on the following weekend - although the national stadium is also set to host this season's Champions League Final on Saturday 1st June, meaning the play-off final would take place just under 24 hours later if Coventry do see off Erik ten Hag's side and reach the FA Cup Final. Although, the play-off final will only be delayed if Coventry reach fixture as well as the FA Cup final.
