Lampard suffered his first defeat as Coventry boss on Wednesday night as West Brom ran out 2-0 victors at The Hawthorns.
It was a fairly even game on a possession basis and the Sky Blues arguably had the better of the opportunities but Albion claimed all three points courtesy of goals from Alex Mowatt and Karlan Grant.

Hide AdThere were plenty of positives to take for Coventry despite the result as they could’ve easily won the game on another night if it wasn’t for the goalkeeping heroics of West Brom’s Alex Palmer. There were also some learnings Lampard can take from Albion, particularly the tactical elements Carlos Corberan prioritises.
“They’re a strong team and a well-drilled outfit, a physically strong team. It’s important in this league to be based on that. It’s something we have to improve ourselves,” Lampard admitted in the post-match press conference.

“They create problems because of the way they play with good possession and they get a lot of people up against your back line. Sometimes they can try and push you back but we dealt with it pretty well.
“Although it’s been a funny period for them, they’ve been robust and they don’t lose games. It’s a big strength that we need to start working towards as well, so there are some things to take from our point of view and we respect them as a strong team in the league,” Lampard added.

Next up for the Sky Blues is a home game against Hull City on Saturday before a trip to Portsmouth the following weekend.
