West Bromwich Albion had a heartbreaking end to the season as they just about missed out on finishing in a Championship play-off position, but the Baggies can now look ahead to next campaign.
It’s been a remarkable recovery job from Carlos Corberan so far and the Spaniard will be keen to add some additions to the squad to better West Brom’s chances of going one step further.
Financially, Albion aren’t in a very good position and so the free agents market may have to be where a lot of the new signings are found. Loans are another potential route, but players with contracts expiring soon will definitely be looked at.
With that in mind, we’ve taken a look across England and Europe at just over a dozen soon-to-be free agents who could theoretically make a move to The Hawthorns. Flick through the pages to take a look.
1. Manuel Lanzini (West Ham United)
The former Argentina international has become very out of sorts at the London Stadium as he has played just 7% of the minutes available to him in the Premier League this season. He played 30 times in the English top tier last campaign, though, with five goals and three assists that term. Moving to Argentina may suit him more, but he would thrive in the Championship.
2. Nathan Redmond (Beşiktaş)
Speedy and able to play anywhere across the front three, Redmond has played well since signing for Beşiktaş last summer but he only signed a one-year deal. It awaits to be seen whether the Turkish side will renew his contract after five goals and five assists in 24 appearances this season.
3. Daniel Amartey (Leicester City)
If the Foxes stay up, someone like Amartey could well become available in the summer. He’s been a good option to have when other centre backs have been sidelined through injury, but otherwise he never really gets a look-in. Would probably thrive in a Championship play-off battle, and can also play as a right-back or defensive midfielder if needed. Handy.
4. Aarón Martín (FSV Mainz 05)
Now entering the prime of his career, Spanish left-back Martín has been a regular starter for Mainz in the Bundesliga but they are yet to offer him an extended deal. Would offer very good competition for Conor Townsend as he can excel at both ends of the field. Has scored five goals in 26 games this term.
