West Brom are gearing up for their Championship clash with promotion rivals Ipswich Town at Portman Road on the weekend.

The Baggies are on Sky Sports as the fifth-placed side travel to Ipswich who are fourth. A whole 11 points separate the two sides but there's an opportunity to narrow the gap. Hull City and others are chasing down West Brom's neck so they'll hope to widen the gap between themselves and the chasing pack.

Here's the latest West Brom headlines from Thursday, February 8...

Player tipped for 'bright future'

Carlos Corberan believes that Caleb Taylor has a 'bright future' at The Hawthorn's. Taylor was loaned out to League One promotion hopefuls Bolton Wanderers and made his debut for his new side at the weekend. It is the second time he has been shipped out by WBA, and there is a hope that this loan will play a key role in his development.

“Caleb is a player I wanted to have working with me but training with one coach has a limitation," he told our sister paper the Express and Star.

"There is a moment where the player needs to move for new ideas and concepts for game situations.

“If you ask me ‘are you happy with Caleb?’ I am very happy and I think he is going to be our future centre-back because he has all of the conditions to be an important player for West Bromwich Albion.

“If you ask me if it’s right now? I don’t think right now is the moment, I think after a short-term loan will be his moment. That’s why in some moment you need to take some risks.

“I prefer five centre-backs, five midfielders, then there is no risk if something happens. But at the same time I need to think of the development of our players.”

Joy and despair for AFCON pair

Grady Diangana and Semi Ajayi had mixed fortunes on Wednesday night as the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals were played. Nigeria booked their place in the final on Sunday, February 11 after beating South Africa on penalties. Ajayi featured in all 120 minutes of the match and he is now in a good position to start the final.

Later on, DR Congo played hosts Ivory Coast and Diagana was named as a substitute, but he could not help his side as he was not brought on. Former West Ham striker Sebastien Haller scored the only goal of the game with DR Congo exiting at the semi-final stage. Diangana won't be returning to WBA at the weekend however. A third-placed play-off is to take place on Saturday, February 10 and so a return against Cardiff City is the likeliest we will see the pair return.

Huddersfield Town game on TV

West Bromwich Albion have seen a third fixture chosen for television next month. The Baggies' game against Huddersfield Town will now air on Sunday, March 10 with a kick-off time of 12.00 at the John Smith's Stadium. Their game against Coventry City at The Hawthorn's on Friday, March 1 was chosen for selection and also their match against QPR at Loftus Road on Wednesday, March 6 is being televised.
