The latest on the Jhon Duran transfer saga as West Ham lead the race after Aston Villa and Chelsea talks.

West Ham United have reportedly launched an official offer for Aston Villa wonderkid Jhon Duran after naming the Colombian as their priority striker transfer target.

The Hammers are determined to take advantage of an opening after talks broke down between Villa and Chelsea. It appeared several weeks ago that Duran would be heading to Stamford Bridge after a verbal agreement but the Blues stalled.

Several concerns - including over expected game time and attitude - emerged and Chelsea have since decided to pull the plug on the deal. West Ham are being far more decisive, however, and are making their move before anyone else can.

Fabrizio Romano reports Julen Lopetegui’s side have submitted a bid of £35 million plus a 10 per cent sell-on clause for Duran. Personal terms have already been agreed and negotiations are underway between the two clubs to seal the transfer.

Duran, who has scored eight goals in 49 games for Villa since signing for £14.75 million from Chicago Fire, has the potential to become a leading striker. The 20-year-old stole the headlines in May as he scored a brace to secure a dramatic 3-3 draw against Liverpool, ruining Jürgen Klopp’s last-ever Premier League away day.

Ollie Watkins’ remarkable form last season meant Duran had to play second fiddle throughout 2023/24. Although signed with the backup role in mind ahead of a later breakthrough, Duran is unhappy with his current level of game time. West Ham will have no doubt made assurances during negotiations over personal terms.
