Aston Villa 'closing in' on Luton Town prospect as Tottenham Hotspur secure striker

Aston Villa are reportedly nearing the signing of Luton Town hot prospect Leon Routh following an agreement on personal terms.
The Villans, building ahead for the future, are eager to make Routh their fourth academy signing of the summer. Omar Khedr joined from Zed FC for around £2 million earlier in the window, Ethan Amundsen-Day arrived from Copenhagen and Max Jenner was poached from local rivals West Bromwich Albion.

Hide AdTheSecretScout, a publication specialising in youth football, reports Villa are “closing in” on acquiring Routh from Luton. The 16-year-old has already given the green light and talks are ongoing between the two clubs to finalise the transfer.
The defender has been part of the Hatters’ academy in recent years, featuring for the Under-18s last season as they were crowned champions of the Youth Alliance South East Division for the second year running.
Town boss Rob Edwards has shown trust in several academy players by naming them in Premier League matchday squads last season, but Routh looks set to slip through the net. If completed, the deal will be the second between Villa and Luton this summer, following on from Ross Barkley’s £5 million switch.
Spurs secure promising striker
In other Premier League transfer news, and focusing on youth in particular once more, Tottenham Hotspur have eased concerns over attacker Frankie Day’s immediate future. The England Under-16 striker was set to leave Spurs - as per The Secret Scout - but will now stay at the club.
