Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers are both without players in the Premier League team of the week despite having standout stars in two-goal performances.
The Villans stunned title chasers Arsenal with a remarkable 2-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, while Wolves drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Saturday. Matheus Cunha scored an outstanding solo effort for the Old Gold and added another from a corner. Even still, the Brazilian fails to make the cut.
WhoScored’s system handed Cunha merely an 8.14 rating out of 10, trumped by several attackers from Newcastle United and Manchester City. It’s understandable as the Magpies thrashed Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 and Pep Guardiola’s side beat Luton Town 5-1 but it still feels a little unjust to leave Cunha out.
No Villa in the team of the week is an even bigger shock as Unai Emery’s men put on a terrific second-half display to cause one of the upsets of the season. Arsenal have looked unbeatable in 2024 but a late quickfire double salvo from Leon Bailey and Ollie Watkins upset the apple cart, with Youri Tielemans key to the win in midfield.
Emiliano Martinez haunted his former team, too, making a string of world-class saves to keep a clean sheet. But the goalkeeper only received a 7.23 rating from WhoScored and failed to beat West Ham United’s Lukasz Fabianski. Jose Sa, who assisted Cunha’s first for Wolves and made seven saves, isn’t in this week’s best XI either.

The Hammers’ goalkeeper was on the end of a 2-0 defeat against Fulham but his eight saves and one claim stopped it being an embarrassment. His experience shines through yet again.

Muñoz made a terrific six tackles, three clearances and one interception as Palace stunned Liverpool with a 1-0 win at Anfield. The Colombian, signed in January, is thriving under Oliver Glasner.
4. Fabian Schar (Newcastle) - WhoScored rating: 9.01The Swiss scored the sweet fourth for the Magpies in their stunning 4-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur. He also made two tackles, five clearances and four interceptions to see out a clean sheet.
