Championship team of the week features Birmingham City, Norwich City and Hull City stars

Here’s how the Sky Bet Championship team of the week shapes up for the weekend of April 12-13.

The fourth-to-last weekend of the 2023/24 Sky Bet Championship season brought twists and turns in key battles, with surprising results at both ends of the table.

With the fight for the title and automatic promotion fierce, the top three seem to be feeling the pressure as they all failed to win. Ipswich Town’s 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough was the best result, whereas Leicester City lost 1-0 at Plymouth Argyle and Leeds United were stunned 1-0 by Blackburn Rovers.

Away from those astonishing scorelines, the play-off race looks fairly set and done following Norwich City’s narrow 1-0 win at Preston North End. West Bromwich Albion’s 1-0 defeat to Sunderland has given Hull City and Coventry City slight hope with their games in hand but the Baggies’ slump may have come too late.

At the foot of the table, Birmingham City earned a massive three points with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Coventry. Blues are still only one point above the drop zone but they started the weekend in 23rd. The other teams still in trouble – Stoke City, Huddersfield Town and Sheffield Wednesday – all drew their matches.

Other results over the weekend just gone include Hull City 3-0 Queens Park Rangers, Swansea City 1-0 Rotherham United, Millwall 3-1 Cardiff City and Southampton 3-2 Watford.

So many players impressed on April 12 and 13 that it would be difficult to pick just 11 to form a team of the week. Thankfully for us, WhoScored does the hard yards. Here’s a full run-through of the best performers in each position.
