Norwich confirm David Wagner replacement as ex-Chelsea and Derby boss becomes favourite for Burnley role
Burnley are searching for a successor for Vincent Kompany after his surprise departure to Bayern Munich
Norwich City will begin a new era of management as FC Nordsjaelland boss Johannes Hoff Thorup takes over the reins at Carrow Road. The 35-year-old Dane replaces David Wagner, who despite leading the Canaries to the play-offs, was sacked following a demoralising 4-0 defeat to Leeds United.
Norwich are preparing for a third successive season in the Championship after their play-off loss and are hopeful that Thorup can translate his success from Denmark to English football.
“I’m excited, I hope that the supporters are excited as well. I hope that we can create something together, it’s so important that they are proud of the team. “ Thorup told the club website.
“I have my ideas and I have my principles in the way that we are going to play, but I am also here to listen to some of the good stuff that has already been done. I have to make sure I am very clear that this is something that we do together and everyone has to have that feeling.”
Thorup is credited with leading Nordsjaelland to a second place finish in 2022/23 and a fourth place finish in his second term in the dugout.
Ex-Chelsea and Derby boss becomes frontrunner for Burnley job
Former Chelsea and Derby County boss Frank Lampard is the new favourite to succeed Vincent Kompany at Burnley following his appointment as Bayern Munich boss. Burnley were promoted from the Championship in 2022/23 with an impressive 101 points, but dropped back down to the second-tier with just five victories from 38 matches.
The Clarets are targeting an immediate return to the Premier League and have turned their attention to Lampard, who is credited with leading Derby to the Championship play-off final in 2019 before losing to Aston Villa.
The 106-time England international had a successful start to life as Chelsea boss and guided the club to a fourth place finish despite a transfer embargo. But things unravelled in his second season as results began to plummet. A difficult one year spell at Everton came to an end in January 2023 with the club in the relegation zone and a brief return to Chelsea on an interim basis brought about just one win in 11 matches.
However, the 45-year-old is still convinced he can be a success in management and is 2/1 favourite to assume the post at Turf Moor - putting him narrowly ahead of Kompany’s former assistant Craig Bellamy at 4/1 with SkyBet.
