Jude Bellingham has been urged to stay at Borussia Dortmund amid January transfer links to the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Real Madrid. Manchester United legend turned-pundit Gary Neville sent out a message to the young England star, sounding the importance of considering such a big career move in great detail.

Ever since Bellingham put on a man of the match performance for England in the Three Lions’ World Cup opener against Iran, the already present speculation surrounding his future has only intensified. Liverpool in particular have been heavily linked with making a move for the midfielder, whereas Manchester City and Real Madrid are also said to hold a strong interest.

Dortmund have already shared their stance, with an air of inevitability surrounding the situation from their perspective. “We can’t behave as if this topic wasn’t on the table,” Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke told German TV. “If [Bellingham] says he’d like to do something else, then the really big clubs in Europe will be there and we can’t afford to fight financially,” he continued.

Since arriving in Germany for around £25 million from Birmingham City, Bellingham has made an astonishing 112 appearances across all competitions, scoring 19 goals and contributing 21 assists. At the tender age of just 19, the ex-Blue has established himself as a key player in the Bundesliga and Champions League. He even captained Dortmund in a 3-2 defeat against Cologne at the start of October.

Ex-England international Neville believes staying where he is would perhaps be the best decision for Bellingham at this stage of his career, referring to the struggles Jadon Sancho has faced since making a move to Old Trafford. “What do you think about him staying over there for a bit longer and developing a bit more,” Neville suggested to ITV Sport.

“He has been unbelievable. Do you think he would look at Haaland - he has been a sensation since he has come, but Sancho has been a really difficult one. He [may] be looking at both situations and thinking what is better.” Bellingham well and truly stole the show alongside Arsenal ace Bukayo Saka in England’s dominant 6-2 win over Iran. The former Birmingham City star opened the scoring with a looping header in the 35th minute, before Saka grabbed a brace of goals to put the game beyond doubt.

Marcus Rashford, Jack Grealish and Raheem Sterling were also on the scoresheet in that game, but Sancho didn’t even make the England squad for the tournament. Bellingham will undoubtedly have some big decisions to make over the next few months, especially with Dortmund unable to battle things financially. For now, though, the boyhood Bluenose has a World Cup to focus on. England’s next game is against the USA, on Friday, November 25.
