Former Birmingham City star Jude Bellingham has scored his first-ever England goal. The 19-year-old, who was chosen in the Three Lions starting XI for the World Cup opener against Iran, netted the opening goal of the game.

Guiding a headed effort into the top corner in the 35th minute, Bellingham, who hadn’t even made his Birmingham debut when England last played in a World Cup, sent travelling supporters into raptures with a fine goal.

The Borussia Dortmund midfielder launched himself into the air to reach Luke Shaw’s cross and steer his header beyond Iran goalkeeper Hossein Mosseini. England went on to score two more in quick succession before half time.

Bukayo Saka made it two as he fired a deflected shot into the top-right corner. Manchester United defender Harry Maguire had headed the ball down, and the Arsenal man was quickest to react in the box.

Raheem Sterling then added a third in added time, hitting the ball first time after a low cross from Harry Kane. Bellingham was heavily involved in the build-up, driving through the midfield before feeding Kane on the right.
