Former Birmingham City defender Curtis Fleming has left Bristol City after a brief spell in caretaker charge. The Robins unveiled Liam Manning as their first-team head coach yesterday, and Fleming who oversaw the 1-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend departed the West Country club, after Manning started to assemble his own coaching staff.

Fleming was a coach at Ashton Gate for more than two years and worked under Nigel Pearson, and on several occasions oversaw first-team affairs when Pearson was unavailable, and when they sacked him just little over a fortnight ago, Fleming was placed in charge.

Former Ipswich Town and Hibernian defender Chris Hogg is now the assistant head coach to Manning, whilst Fleming will be on the lookout for his next coaching gig.

We’d like to wish Curtis all the best for the future and thank him for what he has done for the club over the past two years and especially in the last week following Nigel’s departure," said Bristol City chairman Jon Lansdown to the official club website.

"It is never easy to step into the manager’s shoes but he has done it with the same enthusiasm, optimism and dedication he has shown throughout his time at Bristol City. He has been a credit to himself and the club.”

Fleming mainly played for Middlesbrough in his 20-year playing career, making more than 250 appearances for them. He had a brief spell on loan at St Andrew's in the 2001/02 season, where he made six appearances.
