When Birmingham City can mathematically secure League One title after clinching Championship promotion

Birmingham City clinched promotion back to the Championship with six games to spare by earning a 2-1 away victory against Peterborough United.
Taylor Gardner-Hickman and Alfie May were the goalscorers in a memorable evening for Blues fans as the team responded to the heartbreak of last season’s relegation in dream fashion by bouncing back Chris Davies’ first full campaign in management.

The third placed Chairboys are no longer able to mathematically catch the Blues despite securing a victory over Huddersfield this week, meaning the West Midlands side can enter their EFL Trophy final at Wembley Stadium in a rich vein of confidence after a remarkably successful campaign.
The Blues, who won the double the league and EFL trophy in their last appearance in the second tier 30 years ago under the management of Fry, achieved the feat in front of their former manager, who now works as the Posh’s director of football - and he could well watch them celebrate again at the weekend with the Blues being clear favourites to repeat the feat.
Attention will now turn to wrapping up the League One title and filling up the trophy cabinet with silverware. But how many points do Birmingham need to achieve the feat?

Birmingham need just two points from their remaining six League One games to confirm their status as champions for the 2025/26 season. Second placed Wrexham still have a small chance of catching Birmingham but are 14 points adrift of the league leaders with just five games to spare.
The Red Dragons can pick up a maximum points tally of 96 points if they win all of their five remaining fixtures. But Birmingham with a game in hand on their rivals would need just two draws at the bare minimum to put themselves in an insurmountable position.
They will clinch the title if Wrexham fail to beat Wigan Athletic on Saturday or by winning their next game against Crawley Town on 18 April. Second-placed Wrexham are three points clear of Wycombe Wanderers, but all sides down to Bolton Wanderers in seventh can still mathematically finish second.
A year to remember for Chris Davies
Birmingham City were the clear favourites to win the League One title due to their vastly superior spending power and the experience they had at their disposal.

"A special night - obviously it means the world to see the fans celebrate, it really is something special,” said Davies, via BBC Sport. “I have said previously how the club has suffered a lot, particularly in the last couple of years.
"It is about creating memories, bringing them some joy and making them proud of their club and I think we have done that this season, so for me it means the world.”
