Tony Mowbray has hinted Birmingham City are likely to be more active in the January transfer window than he first envisaged, with a "busy few weeks" in store for the Championship club.

With 13 signings since the Tom Wagner-led Knighthead took over, Blues were one of the most active teams in the English second tier throughout the summer. The squad still isn't quite at the level for Mowbray to be content, however, with more depth required.

"There's lots of conversations, lots of plates spinning. We're excited about the recruitment side and more than I expected. We can't spend millions but we can move a few things around to make this and that happen," Mowbray told BBC Radio West Midlands.

"The group needs a little help in certain areas and, if we can improve that by adding a couple of players, whether it's loans or whatever, then that's what we'll try to do. Craig Gardner is going to have a busy few weeks. He's never off the phone taking calls," Mowbray explained.

Queens Park Rangers midfielder Andre Dozzell looks set to be the first addition of the winter as Birmingham have agreed to take the former England Under-20 international on a six-month loan. Sunderland playmaker Alex Pritchard has been linked, too, but Turkish side Sivasspor have made an offer.
