Birmingham City are closing in on the signing of Queens Park Rangers midfielder Andre Dozzell on a six-month loan deal, according to a reputable report.

The former England Under-20 international has been a regular starter at QPR this season, racking up 27 appearances, two goals and one assist. Formerly of Ipswich Town, the 24-year-old has played a total of 116 games in the Championship throughout his career to date.

The Telegraph reports Birmingham are "close to signing Dozzell on loan for the rest of the season". He's set to become the first signing under new manager Tony Mowbray, who has spoken recently about the need for another midfielder - as well as general added depth throughout his squad.

Blues are set for a bit of a summer spending spree but must be far more cautious this month, with limited funds available for signings. Loan deals, cut-price bargains and free transfers could be the only routes available to Mowbray, as much as that might disappoint Bluenoses.

Dozzell, who can play anywhere in midfield or on either flank, fits the bill as his loan is likely to be of very little cost. Details haven't been specified over any loan fee or the percentage of wages Birmingham will pay, but those figures are usually fairly low in the Championship.
