Jude Bellingham is set to be the man at the heart of this summer’s biggest transfer saga with the former Birmingham City midfielder expected to leave his current club Borrusia Dortmund for big money.

The 19-year-old, who came through Blues’ academy before making a £20 million switch to Germany’s Bundesliga in 2020, is one of the most wanted players on the planet following his stellar performances captaining Dortmund this season as well as being one of England’s star players at the World Cup in the winter.

Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and Real Madrid the five clubs looking to be the primary contenders for the Stourbridge-born playmaker at the end of the season.

It is claimed Dortmund’s asking figure will be around €150 million (£132 million) for Bellingham this summer. This is even the case with Bellingham’s contract set to expire in June 2025. But where will Bellingham end up?

‘Everyone knows where he wants to go’

During last night’s CBS Sports Network coverage of Tottenham’s Champions League last 16 clash against AC Milan, former Arsenal legend Thierry Henry alluded to the fact that many people within the football world know where Bellingham will end up this summer.

While discussing on the CBS panel if players actually want to play for Paris Saint Germain, Henry turned to fellow pundit Jamie Carragher in the studio, and said: “Bellingham wants to play for Liverpool, everyone knows that, right?”

Carragher grinned and said: “Ay up, hope so!”.

Liverpool are viewed as the slight favourites to sign Bellingham, with Jurgen Klopp potentially being a big factor. Although whether the Reds can compete financially with the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid remains to be seen. The Daily Mail has also reported on Thuesday morning (9 March) that Liverpool are increasingly confident of signing the midfielder.

What would Bellingham’s move mean for Birmingham City?

Birmingham City will receive a large sum of money if Bellingham were to be sold by Dortmund.

The 19-year-old would earn Blues even more funds if and when he makes another move. This is due to a sell-on clause that was included in the deal that brought Bellingham to Germany.

According to The Athletic, Birmingham will receive ‘at least’ five percent of any sum Dortmund receive for the English international. This means if he were to leave the club for £100 million, Blues would get at least £5 million of that. Likewise, if Dortmund were to stretch the figure to £150 million, £7.5 million or more would be heading to St Andrew’s.

With so many rumours around at the moment regarding Blues’ ownership and financial status, any such transfer would bring with it a huge boost.
