Birmingham City will receive a large sum of money if former Blues star Jude Bellingham were to be sold by Borussia Dortmund. There is plenty of strong speculation linking the midfielder to a potential move in the January transfer window, with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Real Madrid circling.

The 19-year-old, who left St Andrew’s for Dortmund in 2020 for around £25 million, would earn Blues even more funds if and when he makes another move. This is due to a sell-on clause that was included in the deal that brought Bellingham to Germany.

According to The Athletic, Birmingham will receive ‘at least’ five percent of any sum Dortmund receive for the English international. This means if he were to leave the club for £100 million, Blues would get at least £5 million of that. Likewise, if Dortmund were to stretch the figure to £150 million, £7.5 million or more would be heading to St Andrew’s.

With so many rumours around at the moment regarding Blues’ ownership and financial status, any such transfer would bring with it a huge boost. Bellingham has most recently been linked with a move to Liverpool and a potential deal is progressing according to reports.

The ever-so-reliable transfer news journalist Fabrizio Romano claims the Reds have got a move in motion. He told GiveMeSport: “Liverpool will be in the race, 100 percent. They’re already in contact with people close to Bellingham, so Liverpool will be there.”

Other clubs interested in Bellingham include Man City, Man Utd and Real Madrid. City are another side said to have made advances, with the Daily Mail stating the club has ‘held initial conversations’. Their report said: “Those with knowledge of the situation believe the midfielder will move to the Etihad Stadium.”

Speculation will inevitably intensify over the next few weeks as Bellingham takes on his first-ever World Cup with England. He is the youngest player selected in the 26-man Three Lions squad and is expected to play a key role throughout the tournament.
