Birmingham City manager Lee Bowyer believes his side were better than Coventry City on Good Friday despite being on the wrong end of a 4-2 scoreline.

Kristian Pedersen and Gary Gardner put the Blues 2-0 up but two quick fire goals before the break had the visitors level.

Michael Rose netted a third for the Sky Blues after the break before Callum O’Hare added the cherry on top following more comical defending from Bowyer’s men.

Despite the result, though, the manager stated that there wasn’t much in it and if anything, Blues edged it.

“I thought we started the game really well, I thought we were the better side,” he said.

“2-0 up and cruising then we think that the game becomes too easy and we think we can take our foot off the pedal and allow them back in.

“I think we just needed to manage the game better towards the end of the first half but we didn’t.

“Half-time, 2-2 was tough to take.

“I put it down to being too soft, you can’t concede three set pieces in one game. That’s not good enough.

“You have to take pride in keeping the ball out of your net and making sure your man doesn’t score, it’s quite simple really but for whatever reason today we were soft at it and it’s not like us.

“Fourth one shouldn’t have been a goal anyway the ball didn’t even go out of play but that’s irrelevant, the three from set-pieces were a problem.

“We had chances, I don’t think there was much in the game.

“The scoreline 4-2, you think we took a hiding but it wasn’t that.

“Like I said up until 38/39 minutes first half, we were in full control of the game.

“Second-half, quite even, not much in it but the scoreline looks a lot worse than the performance was.

“They are a good side Coventry. Mark has done a great job with the squad he’s got and they play some great football at times. I watched them against Forest I thought they were very good and today I thought we were the better side.

“But they’ve got the three points and we’ve got none.”
