Birmingham City are eyeing an immediate promotion to the Championship

Birmingham City are sat top of the League One table as they eye an immediate return to the Championship. Wycombe Wanderers are positioned in 2nd and Wrexham are in 3rd.

The Blues slipped out of the second tier last year after finishing in the bottom three along with Huddersfield Town and Rotherham United. They have since adapted well to life in the league below though and look well on their way to winning the title at the first time of asking.

Chris Davies arrived as their manager last summer after he was picked by their hierarchy. Prior to joining the Midlands outfit, he had spells as the assistant with the likes of Celtic, Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

Birmingham City League One title promotion prediction made

We have asked Grok the exact date Birmingham will realistically win the title. Using AI, it replied: “Given the season’s end date (May 3) and typical fixture congestion (weekends plus midweek games in April), Birmingham could realistically secure the title as early as April 19, 2025, assuming they win most of their next 8-10 games and their rivals drop points. This accounts for their current lead, form, and the likelihood of wrapping it up with 2-3 games to spare. However, if their competitors mount a late challenge or Birmingham stutter, it might push to April 26, 2025, or even the final day, May 3.

“Without exact, current standings or results post-March 8, this is an educated projection. Birmingham’s dominance suggests an April clinch is plausible—likely April 18 if they keep winning, giving fans a title party before May.”

If AI is to believed, Birmingham could win the title on 18th April against Crawley Town. However, it could even up being earlier depending on what the teams around them do. Davies will want his team to get the job done as soon as they can so they can enjoy the final few matches before the summer.

Birmingham City boss Chris Davies reacts to Stevenage win

Birmingham won 2-1 at home to Stevenage on Tuesday night. Kieran Dowell and Paik Seung-ho got their goals against Boro as they secured another three points to further boost their promotion charge.

Speaking after the victory, Davies said: “I really liked how we approached the game. Stevenage are notoriously a very good defensive team who don’t give many chances away, but we looked fluent and moved the ball well, both wide players looked dangerous, and we were really strong. From our point of view, it’s (eight league wins in a row at home) a great record. We love playing at home, the support we get is incredible and every game is something special.”

He added: “I said to the players that this is our last home game of the season under the lights, so make sure you make the most of it and make it count. When the floodlights are on there’s no better place to play, so make sure you go and make an impact and tonight they did that.”
