Birmingham City’s head coach might have to use his relationship with the Celtic boss to land a reported target.

Birmingham City are apparently interested in signing Celtic prospect Bosun Lawal, according to reports in Scotland.

The Daily Record is reporting that Lawal is 'wanted' by the Blues whilst Dutch side Fortuna Sittard are also interested. Lawal could stay put at Celtic Park this summer however as Brendan Rodgers is willing to give him a chance this pre-season.

"I really like Bosun," said former Liverpool and Leicester City boss Rodgers to Celtic TV.

"He is a player clearly that has got a lot of physical attributes. But what he has as well is a lot of football ability. Been out on loan and you can see he has had that experience and has that power and quality to break though.

"A lot of the other younger players to get that chance to come in and play. And like I said it is very important, as well as them developing their fitness, its shown they have the personality to come in and play for Celtic.

"That is always important for me for young players that they can come in and play with no fear, and go show that."

Birmingham aren't the only team from England said to be keeping tabs on Lawal's situation. In May it was reported that Championship trio Derby County, Portsmouth and QPR held an interest, along with League One rivals Wigan Athletic.

One advantage Birmingham could have over their rivals is that Davies worked under Brendan Rodgers at various clubs. If it is decided that a move would be best for Lawal’s development then Blues would be at the top of the list.

He was called up to the Ireland senior squad last month despite having never made his league debut for Celtic. Lawal has appeared once for the Scottish Premiership giants in a Scottish Cup match in January 2023, but for the last year was on loan at Fleetwood Town.

Playing under various different managers, Lawal was one of the shining lights in an otherwise dismal campaign for Fleetwood. He appeared in 46 games in total, missing just four league games and registered six goals and two assists.
