Birmingham City’s prospective new owner Laurence Bassini is ‘considering’ making a move for Republic of Ireland assistant manager John Eustace as the Blues new Head Coach - if his takeover is completed.

That’s according to the Mirror who claim Bassini is visiting St Andrew’s tomorrow in a bid to push the takeover towards completion.

With both sides having virtually nothing to play for, it could be a chance for Rs caretaker boss John Eustace to potentially stake a claim for the job on a permanent basis. With both sides having virtually nothing to play for, it could be a chance for Rs caretaker boss John Eustace to potentially stake a claim for the job on a permanent basis.

The controversial businessman was given a deadline of Friday July 1st to get a deal done and with that date fast approaching, he looks to be stepping up his efforts in all areas to take ownership of the club.

Bassini initially identified former QPR boss Mark Warburton as a replacement for Lee Bowyer had a takeover been completed sooner but with time ticking on, the 59-year-old chose to take up a coaching role with West Ham United instead.

According to the report by the Mirror, his attention has now turned to former Coventry, Stoke and Watford midfielder Eustace, who has also recently left his post as assistant manager of QPR.

This news comes as current manager Bowyer finally returned to Wast Hills with the Blues squad yesterday having been absent for the first week back.
