The Blues have risen up to 9th place in the Championship table after their first 16 fixtures. They are only one point off the play-offs now as they look to build some momentum. Chris Davies’ side are back in action on Wednesday with an away trip to The Hawthorns to play rivals West Brom before a clash Watford at home next Monday.
Birmingham City eyeing Championship play-offs
Birmingham were relegated to League One in 2024 and subsequently turned to Davies as their head coach. Prior to his move, he held coaching roles as the number two with the likes of Celtic, Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City. He has since done an eye-catching job and guided his current club to the third tier title last season.
The Blues went up along with Wrexham automatically before Charlton Athletic beat Leyton Orient in the play-off final at Wembley. Their owners have ambitious plans to reach the Premier League as soon as possible. They have also recently outlined plans for a new-look stadium seating over 60,000.
It was well documented over the summer that Birmingham spent a fair bit of money bolstering their squad. They delved into the market to snap up the likes of Ducksch, Kyogo Furuhashi and Demarai Gray, among others. They also completed loan deals for individuals such as Tommy Doyle, Lewis Koumas and James Beadle.
Davies has the opportunity to freshen up his ranks in the upcoming January transfer window. He could look to get some more firepower. In addition, he has the opportunity to let some players head out the exit door as well if needed to help free up space and funds to pave the way for potential reinforcements.
