Birmingham City's next match isn't until Monday, September 16, which is when they play fellow League One promotion hopefuls Wrexham, but excitement is already building.

Blues' match against Exeter City was called off due to international call-ups. Several of their players are away on international duty in the UEFA Nations League this week, with Bailey Peacock-Farrell getting things underway by keeping a clean sheet against Luxembourg for Northern Ireland.

Most teams only have to wait a week until their team play next, but given the furore surrounding both Birmingham City and Wrexham, the match was chosen for broadcast coverage by Sky Sports. Both teams are owned by North Americans, with Knighthead owning Blues, and then Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds, owning it alongside It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob McElhenney.

The two sides are expected to challenge for promotion given the resources that each club has at their disposal, and there was even a suggestion that there was a request for this fixture to be played Stateside, but that was rejected. Birmingham and Wrexham will instead meet at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park, and it looks like there could be a bumper crowd.

Wrexham were given an allocation of 2,227 tickets, and all of those have been snapped up. It's been reported that 26,500 tickets have been sold in the home end, and so the attendance could near nearly 30,000.

According to Twitter user @91xMH, only 376 tickets remain on the seat map as of 10.42 pm on September 5 with nearly 95% of the ground sold out. Ticket prices started at £25 for an adult in the main Stand Lower Wing whilst the the highest price was £35 for someone in the Kop Upper and Kop Centre Lower.

Birmingham City have so far recorded attendances of 27,985 and 27,136 against Reading and Wigan Athletic. Reading were allocated a little over 2,200, and sold that out, whilst Wigan took over 1,500.

In the EFL Trophy, Birmingham had 9,752 in attendance for their 1-1 draw with Walsall on Tuesday night. Blues missed out on the opportunity to earn an extra point on penalties, but their game was the highest attended match of the first round of fixtures.
