Birmingham City have dropped back into the Sky Bet Championship relegation zone following Sheffield Wednesday’s 3-1 win away at Blackburn Rovers.

Danny Rohl’s side, penned in for Sunday’s early afternoon kick-off, were under huge pressure to claim victory following dropped points for both Birmingham and Huddersfield Town. Blues failed to beat the already-relegated Rotherham United away, while the Terriers were thrashed 4-0 at home to Swansea City.

Wednesday’s win, courtesy of strikes from Josh Windass and Marvin Johnson - as well as an own goal from Rovers goalkeeper Aynsley Pears - moves them up to 21st in the table. The South Yorkshire side are now one point above Birmingham and three ahead of Huddersfield.

The team with the best goal difference is Blues by far, giving Gary Rowett’s men the advantage if points are even after the final day. That’s definitely not something Birmingham will want to rely on, though, making next Saturday’s game away at Huddersfield all the more important.

That clash was already looking set to be season-defining but even more so now after Wednesday’s success in Lancashire. The pressure is definitely on and this immense relegation fight could genuinely go right down to the final kick of the season.
