A day and night have passed since the news broke Birmingham City Football Club have purchased a 48-acre site to build a new multi-sports super stadium, supposedly replacing St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park.

The land, previously the home of Wheels Adventure Park, was bought into council ownership in 2021. But the reigns are set to be handed over once again, this time to Blues owners Knighthead with figurehead Tom Wagner playing a key role.

Excitement is undoubtedly building among the Birmingham fanbase but there's also a clear message of apprehension and sadness tied in. Supporters have been reacting to the news on X (formerly Twitter), with this array of emotions conveyed.

@Drinkie said: "Fantastic news tinged with sadness that the ground my father took me to as a small kid, will pass on to history. He used to take a crate for me to stand on and lean against a barrier on the main kop."

@JustinG92785123 replied: "I'm beyond excited that Blues have bought the 48-acre site down the road. The potential for the club and the city is enormous. A comparison with the 7.5 acres St Andrews sits on shows what this could mean."

@raymondnolan81 wrote: "Bring it on! As much as I love St Andrew's, this is the step @BCFC has to take to try and establish ourselves as a Premiership club when we make it back to that level."

@NatJPeters admitted: "I'm still wary that if/once built this could end up being a massive white elephant. If the capacity is substantially higher than Stans then I don't think we'd ever regularly fill it, and I have doubts about the viability off the pitch too."

@delves1 posted: "Anyone moaning or being negative or doubtful about a new stadium just remember back to St Andrews being redeveloped, we were only getting 12k when plans first released, 10 years later we were getting 150% more than that, a lot can happen to a football club in a decade."

@MarkPeacock_83 responded: "Not a moan from me but I have always been against moving from St Andrews. I've got time to get used to it though as don't think it will happen for a good few years yet."

@joewatson24 penned: "The Birmingham wheels site being acquired is huge. But for me, like many I guess, I can’t get excited until the on-the-field matters are sorted. Feels a bit like we’re trying to skip the linear progression part. Big news long term though!"
